BSD Sub System Installation?

BSD Sub System Installation?

I've recently installed 10.3 on my system and down loaded the 10.3.9 upgrade from the site and installed it according to the instructions. Some where along the line I lost of didn't install the BSD subsystem? This is causing a problem with the installation of the Adobe CS software.

The question is this: How to I install the BSD sub system without destroying or changing any of my current system settings?

Any assistance on this would be much appreciated

Hello! The 10.3 info says you'll have to a re-install of the system. Tom

"If you did not install this software, you need to reinstall Mac OS X and make sure the BSD Subsystem is selected in the Custom Install pane of the Installer."

Tom,

Are you saying to reinstall the 10.3.9 upgrade again? Will this install give me the option to customize the installation and choose the BSD subsystem? Will it effect any other software on my system other then the BSD?

Hello Again! You may have to reinstall all of your apps. As Cornelius has said Pacifist may be able to extract the item from the install disk but I'm not sure that will work as it's part of the base OSX system. Since it's part of the OS doing an archive and install which only replaces the system should work and preserve your other apps and data. Before attempting any solution be sure you have your data backed up.Tom

Have located the BSD components in the 10.3.9 update. Have decided to discuss this with local Mac Dealer as I'm concerned I might install it incorrectly and destroy or lose data.

This appears to more then a drag and drop and is beyond my skills.

It's not the easy solution I was looking for, but has certainly helped.

Thanks for posting back, Ron. It helps to know how things turned out.

Have located the BSD components in the 10.3.9 update.

Not sure what "update" is indicated in your response. It likely has an installer attached. Again, you may be able to use Pacifist to open the .pkg and install it.
