How Transfer Apps from iPhone to iTunes?

Hi folks. Flushed the apps from iTunes (backed up) from iTunes. They are still on my iPhone. I want to transfer the apps to iTunes from the phone.

I'm signed in and all that, but choosing "File::Transfer Purchases from phone_name" does not do so. Not sure what to do now.

I've restarted the phone and iTunes. Still doesn't work.

Any insight appreciated. Cheers

If there's a reason to keep them in iTunes, you can redownload them directly from the App Store, but...

With iOS 9.2 you are no longer able to move apps from a device to iTunes. Apple now uses a system called App Thinning. With it, when you download, or update, an app on a device, only the resources needed for that specific device are downloaded. This makes the download substantially smaller and quicker. But it also means that that exact version is useless to any other device, so it doesn't get moved to iTunes. If you do want it in iTunes, you have to download it from the App Store directly (or set this to be done automatically). Personally, I stopped keeping copies of apps in iTunes - no reason to waste disk space. I can always redownload them from the store. The one exception is an old, but still working app that's been abandoned by its developer.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Purchased (from Apple) media (music, videos, books, ringtones, etc.) ought to transfer, assuming the library is authorized for the account(s) used to purchase them. If they don't or you have any other content there are suggestions in the tip. You can also redownload any of your qualifying past purchases (media and apps) directly from the iTunes Store. Links in the user tip.

No, there is no way to grab apps from the phone. There is generally no need to keep copies of your apps in your library any more. If the time comes that you want to restore a backup to the device any app referenced by the backup that isn't in the library will be automatically sourced direct from the store over Wi-Fi. The only time this would present a problem is if you still wanted to use an app that had been withdrawn by its developer. If you think this might apply you could archive all of .ipa files, or those that you would hate to lose, somewhere for safe keeping and then delete them from the library.

I've notice the tip could use a little updating. Here is the current article on redownloading past purchases:
