Can not connect to https: sites

This is an ongoing problem. I've tried all suggestions and one or two seemed to fix the problem, but it soon returns and those fixes no longer work. I suspect it has to do with HSTS but find no solution on any discussion or web site.

This happens with both Safari (10.1.2) and Firefox (54.0.1). I am using a MacBook Pro 17" with OS 10.10.5.

iPhone 3GS, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Try running this program in your normal account, then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Try uninstalling Tech Tool Deluxe using the Developer's uninstall instructions.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer or by using the developer’s uninstall instructions. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

It's taken this long for me to be able to connect and download Etrecheck and run it. It shows Performance Below Average. I am unable to connect to this site on that computer, so can't send you a copy of the report at this time, but wanted to let you know I'm still working on the problem. I have no mail app that works on this older OS on my old laptop, which I'm using now and able to connect to https sites, so can't obtain the Etrecheck report to forward to you. In my investigation, I believe I've narrowed the problems origin to a security update for 10.10.5 on May 15, 2017. That's when the problem began, right after down loading it.

The Etrecheck report shows FAILED under Launch Agents: for com.adobe.ARMDCHelper.cc24aef4a1b90ed56a725c38014c95072f92651fb65e1bf9c8e43c37a 23d420d.plist

And Cannot contact: Flash Player:26.0.0.137

These are the only red text on the report.

I will continue to work on sending you the report on the affected computer. Any additional suggestions (I read all links and tried their suggestions without luck) you have would be appreciated.

HughesNet Status Meter Unix Executable File (? 708f25fe - installed 2016-07-21)

(/Applications/HughesNet Status Meter.app/Contents/MacOS/HughesNet Status Meter)

Try taking this out of your login items and then restart.

Try going to Safari/Preferences/Extensions and disable all extensions. Quit Safari, reopen, and see if the website will now load. If so, enable extensions one or two at a time until you find which extension is causing the problem.

Aug 4, 2017 1:38 PM in response to Eric Root

I searched everywhere I could for the

HughesNet Status Meter Unix Executable File (? 708f25fe - installed 2016-07-21)

(/Applications/HughesNet Status Meter.app/Contents/MacOS/HughesNet Status Meter)

and could not find it, so I trashed the app itself. No help. It shows up on start up even after I clicked off the "load on start up" button and put it in the trash.

The Safari extensions were turned off, but my problem also occurs with Firefox, which has no extension, so doubt that's the problem.

I have to admit that only know enough about computers to get myself into trouble, so if you could spell out how to find and deal with any of your suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

What kind of wireless modem/router do you have? If it is one of the above, you may need to download and install the drivers again.
