where do I access the microphone for dictation on a new MacBook pro?

Open System Preferences > Sound > Input > select the internal mic.

Open SP > Dictation & Speech > click the on button for Dictation.

There is a headphone port which I allows you to access microphone if you have a speaker headset which is compatible headset you use with iPhone 6.
