Anyone else have a spider in their LCD Screen?

My iMac is a 27" Late 2013

I am not the only person (with this model) that has had an insect crawl into a space that should have been sealed and protected!

Apple's response is we DON'T repair INFESTED machines! Are you F-ing KIDDING ME??????

You manufactured a FAULTY machine if this can happen. It's NEVER happened on any other machine I've ever owned.

APPLE, take some responsibility for your design.

If you do a search you'll find that tiny insects have been crawling into LCD displays of all makes for years. Try a search like "LCD insect in display" to see some examples. Thrips (AKA corn flies or thunder bugs) are one such insect that shows up in a fair number of the posts.

Desktop LCD's generate heat from the backlight and electronics that must be dissipated. This means that there will be tiny openings where minute insects residing in your house or office can enter. In most cases they are harmless and are never seen, but occasionally they find their way into the backlight layer and wander around. They make entertaining YouTube videos, but not much else.

If you are dealing with a single insect in the display I suggest contacting Apple again since that is clearly not indicative of an infestation, however I would be surprised if getting rid of the insect on a several year old iMac is cost effective for you. It might be better to wait for the insect to die and then see if you can get it to drop outside of the viewable area.

UPDATE! I did ask to speak with the manager at Apple and where they originally refused to even fix it because it was dangerous for their staff...it's now at the Apple Store awaiting a new LCD.

Apparently, this is not the first they've seen at their location. They attempted to suck (vacuum), blow (canned air), and were perplexed at the last incident.

My screen is being replaced and I'm happy. I don't want to look at a dead spider that happened to walk into an unwelcoming space where it met its demise rather quickly.

My son said it best, Apple is killing insects. We should call PETA 🙂

I'm just happy I won't have to stare at it every day. In fact, my plan is to install fly strips around all entry points to avoid a recurrence.

Thoughts?!
