I've bricked my MacBook Pro!

I am selling my MacBook, so I thought I'd wipe the hard drive. Unfortunately, I thought I could remember how to do it, but messed it up.

I used the disc utility to erase the drive Mackintosh HD, then selected format as OSX Base System. That last part is where I went wrong because now I cannot instal the OS to that drive as it is incorrectly formatted.

All options are greyed out. Ran first aid and that has locked the disc.

How do I get out of this and get it up and running again?

Boot into Internet Recovery by holding down cmd+Opt-R

From there, erase the entire hard drive. Use MacOS Extended (Journaled).

When done, you can install the OS that shipped on that Mac.

From where did you choose OSX Base System? That is a partition of the installer, not a disk format.

When I boot to Internet Recovery, "erase" is greyed out.

Click Partition.

I can't remember what you see, now.

However, you need to choose 1 partition and in the Options use GUID partition table.

Use macOS Extended (Journaled) for the volume format.
