Deleting emails on my iPhone 5

Currently, my iPhone 5 (Model A1428; iOS 10.3.3) has an email mailbox with over 4400 emails in it. Previously, I deleted them one at a time, which took hours & hours.

  • Is there a way I can delete all emails at once? When you hit "edit" then "select all", it only gives the option of to FLAG or MARK AS READ those that you selected.
  • I saw in one Reply in Community from 2016 that you can reload the Mail App (after deleting it to get rid of email) from the App store when you type in "Apple Mail." I cannot find it. Is Apple mailbox no longer available in the App Store? I am not going to delete the App unless I can get it back.

Are you using iCloud mail? Or another service like gmail, yahoo, hotmail?

You can restore any Apple stock app you delete: Restore a built-in app that you removed: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204221

Mail by Apple: https://appsto.re/ca/AFzdcb.i

You can also access your iCloud mailbox in www.icloud.com

Might be more convenient to delete multiple emails there.

I was using gmail on my phone. On my PC I used gmail through Outlook so that I would not delete them on one device to have it also delete on the second device.

Thank you! Your directions were clear and I was able to find the Apple MAIL icon by entering "Mail" as you suggested not "Apple MAIL," which gave me numerous non-Apple apps options to use.

Now that I have downloaded the app, I cannot remember how to set up my phone for the internet email to now be sent to it. Can you help me with that?

Also, it is Gmail or Apple Mail's feature that has messages archived? My goal is to keep only a few emails on my phone and to be able to keep many of them on my pc. Should I switch to Google's gmail app or continue to use Apple Mail? Would that eliminate my frustration on not being able to delete large amounts of them at once? (Hence, this is why I deleted the Mail app icon so that all mail would disappear off of my phone.)

Your continued help is appreciated.

Thank you for the above directions. However, as my phone updated overnight, the gmail account was connected and I did not need to use the above directions.

HOWEVER, every single 4440+ emails repopulated onto my phone!!! Is there a way to delete these emails on my phone? Or do I have to go to my pc and delete them off of my gmail account one at a time? (I am glad I also get them on Outlook so I can save any important ones for committees, travel, work, etc. and not keep them on my phone taking up space.)

The best way to delete mass quantity of emails in Gmail is to do it on their web portal: mail.google.com.

You can create a rule say to delete any email that was received from 1-1-2000 to 1-1-2017 for example.

to save emails, all you need to do is not delete them, as you access Gmail using IMAP, they are saved on the server.

Using Outlook is not necessary. I save my important emails on Gmail server this way, have emails dating back many years.
