Global address lookup works in contacts but not in mail

Hello,

Using Contacts I am able to quickly search the exchange servers Global Address List to find the person I need, however trying to use this same function in the Mail app does not yield any results.

Is there something I need to enable to get this to work?

Thanks!

Hello Eocs,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to search for email addresses in Mail on your Mac, but these same addresses show up in the Contacts app. You can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to a user file or setting by trying to reproduce the issue from another user account. This process includes creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log into your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Hi Allen and thanks for the reply!

Your reply got me looking at the issue again and it turns out there is a way to look up from the GLA. However the original issue still persists.

Turns out you can look up from the GLA by just typing the start of the name in the ''to'' field and it will search the GLA and offer suggestions ''found on server''. So there is a way but i find it odd that the plus sign on the right side of the ''to'' field does not look up even though it seems Mail is indeed capable of searching the GLA. Maybe it has a different purpose

I have to say that the way this works actually turns out to be easier to use then Outlook on Windows OS as there you have the extra click to open the GLA search.

I have been testing to see if this MBP can replace my windows laptop in a windows dominated office and am still getting used to trying things i normally would not and looking to replicate what i can do in outlook for example. So far i love it though.

Put a screenshot below in case what i type isn't clear.
