Facebook Stupidly Slow - Safari

Facebook is driving me nuts on Sarafi. I have tried resetting / deleting all cookies & cache / turing off all plugins / turning off all extensions. Nothing works!

I have noticed when browsing / scrolling my timeline its about bearable - however if I visit a Facebook Page that when it all goes tits up. Freezes / unable to scroll / hangups / beachball - you name it. I have to eventually just force quit Safari.

I'm running OSX 10.12.6 with Safari 10.1.2 on my MacBook Pro. My download speed is 75Mbps (just tested). I have no issues whatsoever on any other site - none. Just Facebook.

Any suggestions anyone?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer or by using the developer’s uninstall instructions. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Thanks Eric

It's presenting me the option to remove / keep the first two files - with keep checked for:

Unknown file: ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.appbox.AppBox.plist

~/Library/Application Support/AppPolicy/AppBox -i -c 461086 -isn 755BC7C4-F069-4BEA-81C1-A339C3ACB838

Of the latter two files this one is also checked as keep:

[running] com.appbox.AppBox.plist (? 29fa5a46 9b9dd5bd - installed 2016-12-28) [Lookup]

Should I check remove for all four files?

Jul 28, 2017 2:56 PM in response to Allan Eckert

Thank you.

I removed the files - emptied the trash & re-started. It's still the same on FB. It's Facebook Pages that are the main problem. It appears that the entire contents of a Page load and continue to load which seems to bring everything to a halt. I again reached the point of beachballing causing me to quit Safari.

What were those files by the way - were they malware and were they something to be concerned about?

Here's my latest report and thank you again.

A few thoughts:

1) There is some evidence that outdated DivX software cab cause issues. Yours is 2-3 years old. It could be casuing teh high CPU usage diagnostic for WebKit. If you use DivX, update. If not delete it.

2) Do the problems continue if you disable AdBlock Plus?

3) You have an old internet plug-in:

OVSHelper: 1.1 (installed 2014-11-26) [Lookup]

Not sure what it does but it is likely out of date (Nov 2014). See if there is a removal tool for it.
