Macbook Pro mid 2012 running slow after updating to Sierra

I just updated to Sierra and now my mac is running SUPER slow. It can't even keep up with my typing, I have to wait around 5-10 seconds for it to catch up sometimes. I've tried running it in Safemode and I still have the same problem.

Hi,

Try resetting the SMC: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295.

There could be an issue with your hard drive or the directory structure on it. Open Utilities > Disk Utility > select your HD on the left (the first item on the list) > make sure S.M.A.R.T. status says “Verified” (if it doesn’t it means there is a hardware issue with the HD, or an impending one) > click on the second item on the list (which should be Macintosh HD or the name you named your internal HD) > click on “First Aid” > (depending on your OS, you may have to click on Repair Disk or Verify Disk) > click on “Run” > allow it to finish running > click on “Show Details” > look at the last few lines and see if it says something like "Appears to be OK" and/or “Operation successful;” if so, click on “Done,” go to the Disk Utility menu and select “Quit Disk Utility.”

If it says “Cannot be repaired” or something like it any time during the run, run it a few more times to see if Disk Utility can repair it. If not, click on “Done,” go to the Disk Utility menu, select “Quit Disk Utility.”

I have the same MBP mid-2012 but with the dual core i5 CPU, 16gb ram and 500gb SSD.

I use to experience the same problems however ever since the hardware upgrade all my problems have gone away.

I highly recommend you upgrade your hard-drive with an SSD. Your ram is fine.

Amazon.com: Crucial MX300 525GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT525MX300SSD1: Computers & Accessories

500gb. SSD is fine for dual boot bootcamp Sierra / Win-10 which is what I have installed with (2) 250gb partitions.

My MBP works flawlessly and is one of my most reliable computers.

Until then I recommend you only use the default apple OSX apps like Safari and iWork suite.

Disable utorrent and any other download apps you may have.

Disable "syncing" of files, bookmarks, photos, etc.

Disable syncing in iCloud settings.

Open each browser app and disable syncing in Safari and Chrome, etc.

All this files syncing is putting a load on your computer and generating allot of unnecessary read / writes to the hard-drive.

I have the same MBP upgraded with 16gb ram and 500gb SSD running boot camp dual boot Sierra / Win-10

performs great after the upgrades. Works flawlessly and I have not seen a beachball in a long time.

No problems since the hard ware upgrades.

I highy recommend you do a hardware upgrade with at least 8gb ram and 256gb SSD

I use Crucial MX300 SSD and Crucial ram.

Cost me about $250 for the hard ware upgrade.

Until then I have found that what was causing allot of beachballing was "file syncing"

File syncing between iCloud, Chrome browser, Google drive, Dropbox, etc.

You want to go to each apps setting and disable file syncing of files, photos, bookmarks, etc.
