Cheapest (but still decent) new graphics card for G4 MDD?

The cheapest NEW graphics card for a G4 MDD that will be an improvement over your Radeon 9000 Pro is a Radeon 9600 Pro PC & Mac Edition. However, if you boot into OS 9 (not Classic) for very much of your Mac usage, forget the 9600 as it is not supported in OS 9. It will display an image in OS 9, but it won't be a very good image and it isn't adjustable because the ATI Radeon software for OS 9 doesn't recognize the card.

I've posed a similar thread... you may opt for the (9000 Pro 128Mb Ram version... some on ebay, or try purchasing a pc agp card and flash the rom then upgrade the drivers... I think I might do that... I'm not sure what the last card that got 9.2.2 drivers but if you don't need 9.2.2, maybe flashing rom is the nxt best thing.... buying mac specific cards is criminal when it comes to cost

Just curious but, does the 9800 ATI card have the same limitations as the 9600 using OS 9.2.2 ???

StrangeDogs is a good place to start. I've upgraded the GPU on my MDD with a PC Radeon 9800Pro and flashed its ROM. Make sure you disable the 8x AGP pins as well so it operates at 4x.

Very cost effective upgrade as I had a spare 9800Pro for my PCs laying around.
