Hi,

I have the same issue when I switched iTunes from my Macbook Air to SurfacePro running WIndows 10.

I found this article and it worked: https://support.imazing.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001501333--Back-Up-button-is-gr eyed-out-in-iTunes

  1. Quit iTunes
  2. Click Start (Windows Start Menu).
  3. In the Search or Run line, type cmd, and press Enter.
  4. "%ProgramFiles%\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt DeviceBackupsDisabled 0
  5. Tap enter to execute this command
  6. Relaunch iTunes

Make sure you download and install the latest version of iTunes, currently 12.6.2: https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Is the device updated to iOS 10.3.3?

Does the computer have enough free storage?

Does your iCloud have enough available storage?

Try a new USB-Lightning cable

Try backing up on your iphone: Settings → Tap your name → iCloud → iCloud Backup → iCloud Backup = ON & Back Up Now

I'd like to chime in that this was what was preventing me from itunes backup. However there is no need to uninstall imazing.

The solution is to:

  1. Quit iTunes
  2. Launch iMazing
  3. Quit iMazing
  4. Relaunch iTunes

The "Back Up" button in iTunes should now be functional.

All, this link below helped to resolve this issue for me on a MacBook Pro :https://support.imazing.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001501333--Back-Up-button-is-gr eyed-out-in-iTunes

Nothing else would work but this worked first time follow the instructions in the sequence shown

Solution:

You most probably just like me have or had installed a software that is involved in similar function like iTunes (iMazing or something alike). You have to uninstall the software so your iTunes started to "back up" again. And don't forget to close and resteart your iTunes before and after. Good luck!
