Cannot remove songs from an of my iPods with also removing from Library?

I am following these steps for old classic iPod, older Nano and newly purchased Nano):

Delete songs from iPod/iPod touch but still keep on computer: Connect your iPod to computer > Run iTunes if it doesn't open automatically > Click the device mark of your iPod > Click Summary > Check Manually Music and Videos in Options Column > Click Music at On My Device Column > Right click the songs you want to delete > Click Delete to remove songs from iPod and iPod touch.

However: I get "Delete From Library" as an option but NOT just "Delete" so I am not just trimming the songs off the iPod.

Am I missing a crucial step here?

Running iTunes 12.6.2.20 on MacMini (OSX 10.12.6). Nanos running 1.0.4

Hhmm! That's one crazy set of instructions.

First of all, how do you manage your iPods? Are all three using the same Library? Do you use Sync, or Manually Manage and which iPods do you manage this way?

I'll assume for now that you use Sync to manage all three iPods from one Library and that you want the same song to be removed from all three, but the song to be kept in the Library.

In your iTunes Library, untick (un-check) the song that you want to remove from the iPod. You can do this in Songs view;

Connect an iPod to iTunes. When it is seen in iTunes, click on the Device icon:

on the Device/Summary pane, put a tick in the box named Sync only ticked songs and videos.

After selecting the sync only box, click on the Sync button at the bottom (to make another Sync take place).

That's it. Any song you un-tick in the Library will be removed from the iPod at the next Sync.

If you want to take a song off of one iPod but not others, you will probably need to Sync selected playlists, artists, albums and genres to your iPod instead of Sync / Entire Library. But that's a different story. If so, let us know and we can help you set that up.
