"Tones" Tab not showing up in "library" section of iTunes. (not on iPhone)

Hi! So, I am trying to make a new ringtone for my iPhone SE, But the "tones" tab won't come up in the library section. This has nothing to do with my phone, just iTunes. I can't even sync music + tones from the summary tab on my phone because the section is grayed out. And no, I don't have "manually manage music and videos" on. Please help! 😢

What version of iTunes? The newly released iTunes 12.7 has changed the game somewhat. You now drag and drop from Finder/Explorer to the device when it is connected to iTunes. See the last section of Manually manage content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iTunes - Apple Support.

See HT208079: Deploy apps in a business environment with iTunes to access iTunes 12.6.3 which will restore the tones, books, and app management features removed in iTunes 12.7. Windows users need to uninstall the main iTunes application first. In either case restore a pre-12.7 copy of the iTunes database as described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash or from Time Machine or other suitable backup.

Been an Apple user for over 20 years; this is the worst dictatorial unilateral decision that Apple have ever implemented. Shame on this company - they want us to use all their devices and take every opportunity to remove user-friendly parts of a major software item.

Whatever happened to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it?"

I think I'll go back, using Time Machine and use a different version of iTunes.

you seem to be extremely knowledgable in this area, so maybe you can help me out. I understand the new drag and drop from finder to iPhone and I have done that when adding new custom ringtones, but when I sync my iPhoneSE it doesn't show up on the phone. When plugged into my laptop, it shows them installed on the phone, but when looking at the phone, there not there. Very frustrating to say the least. Probably missing something very basic, but... Any ideas?

I still carry my $38 Tracfone from 2012. It allows me to record a voice memo, save it to Files, and then set it as a ringtone in three easy steps--no computer needed. I use this native function on a regular basis to record voice reminders, which are more likely to get my attention than a beep or chime. If I need to record a voice memo to set as a reminder for a few hours later, I do not want to have to return to my computer, which may be in another building. That's supposed to be the point of having a "smart" phone--to *un*tether users from their desktops. I refuse to accept that "more advanced technology" necessitates less advanced user functionality, and I'm seriously annoyed at having to carry two devices because the one that costs more than my first car did can't do what the cheap one does.
