Wifi drops when phone is locked or goes to idle and reconnect when screen is on.
This happens after the last ios update.
Model :iphone 5.

This is not anecdotal. I have been testing it with every iOS release. Nothing has changed. Here is how to actually test it:
Every time a major version is released I do this again. The response has never changed in 10 years.
Repeat the test with the phone plugged in; it won't go to sleep. It may wake up for a few seconds if the phone receives a notification such as a Push email alert, which is an external stimulus, but apps that originate communications will not wake it and will use cellular data.

It's not hardware issue for sure. After 11.0.3 update I'm facing exact same issue with iPhone7. Wifi disconnects every time phone is locked or idle.
Really? I have auto-login off, and my current phone drops Wi-Fi when the screen locks. As has every iPhone I have ever owned, back to the original 10 years ago.
Go to Settings
WiFi
Choose your Network (router)
Auto-login
If you are on iOS 10 or below 11 then you will get only Auto-Join !
Apple Had Auto-Join and Auto-Login before iOS 7
Have you tried turning of Auto-Login ?
Please try the steps mentioned in my previous comments and if you do have that issue please let Apple know via the Support.
How many times does it need to be said? It is NOT a bug. That's how it's supposed to work.
Have you informed Apple that their design decisions are stupid yet, you should, how will they know if you dont.

I think that you don't understand my mention! Anyway as i had already said there is no reason to fill this post with no usefull message, so thats my last message and i look forward for someone who want to help.
Its hard to argue with egoists. 2 is not a trend. But out of the handful iphones i have access to, say 10, if 2 is affected then its a trend. A simple google search will show similar threads explaining 10.3.3 issues. I never mentioned all the iphones are experiencing this problem. Something is making this conflict. We are here to figure out what is the common factor in these affected phone.
You are the one creating useless reply threads here. To understand that you need little commonsense. Just because you dont have an issue doesnt mean there isnt a glitch.
Even one is a trend where it matters. Please leave this thread. So many people have issues and trying to figure out.
To sum it up. Issue Wifi dropping
Symptom:
Screen lock wifi disconnect from from router. When screen unlock greyed out wifi symbol then no wifi symbol after 5-6 seconds wifi back. If cellular connection is active when screen unlock greyed out wifi symbol then 3G/LTE after 5-6 seconds stable wifi symbol.
People with similar issues if found a solution please post.
Once your system shows request time out check your connection list on router or try to ping your whatzapp(turn off your mobile data) . You will still get the notification and your iphone is still shown on router client list. Thats not the case with us. Once locked wifi is disconnected completely. No more push notification. completely disconnect from router. Even after the unlock it takes 5-6 seconds to show the wifi symbol. Hope you get our issue clearly now.
Interesting. None of my devices every disappear from my router connection map, even when the device is not connected to WiFi. This sounds more like a router problem.
UPDATE: The 4S shows disconnected (but still listed) after a long period of time, long after the pings start to time out. More than 15 minutes (I got tired of waiting).
