Whenever the phone sleep and wakes, the map reverts to vertical (not landscape) position even though it was in landscape before phone went to sleep. It seems to be a new problem. Any idea why or how I can fix it?

Same issue here. I usually have it in landscape mode on my Harley and the vibrations does let the mode change between landscape and portrait mode very frequently. Therefore I would like to lock the screen while in landscape mode... but whenever I lock it, it goes back into portrait mode... very frustrating... why is it so difficult for Apple to implement?
Not sure if you have answered the question correctly because he asked why the map is in portrait mode when the phone is locked and screen is off and come back on again but not unlocked.
This is the problem I have and it has been like this from the beginning of iPhone.
Yes I can have it unlocked for landscape but if you have it locked it's only bright when new info on map.
