Automation Latch behaves like Touch ?

Why does latch behaves like touch and returns to the level previously to the applied automation?

Example:

I start to automate a Track from -20 to -12 in latch mode. Then I leave the fader alone and stop Logic.

I Expect the Automation level in Latch-mode to stay at -12 until the end of the song when there is no further Automation Point.

Why does it return to -20 by the Ramp-time which is defined in the Automation preferences?

That should be the case in Touch-mode but never in Latch.

Yes I am sure to look in the right places.

Maybe it helps when I tell you that it sometimes works fine on the first attempt.

from the second try on it fails all the time.

I hope the screenshot helps to express what I want to say.

The Orange Frame is where I automated the volume -

The green point is where I stopped writing automation

The red circle indicates where I stopped logic

The blue Line shows the "Ramp-Time" (1000 ms) which is set in the "Automation Preferences"

and it shows what never should happen:

As you can see: after stopping Logic it automatically sets the volume back to amount it had when I started automation instead of staying at the "high" level where I left the Fader before I stopped the Sequenzer.

And maybe it helps to mention that I work with logic since version 1 (emagic) and the (Track-) automation always worked fine since it was invented until Logic X.

Maybe I did not express myself exactly enough:

My projects are approximately 35 to 60 Min. long.

I´m working on sounddesign, Postproduction, Real sounds...... AND

I am Composing the music for those films (TV)

In the end I work with up to 150 Tracks in one Project.

When I have a ready Part on Track 5 with Automation and a few minutes later I do need Track 5 for something else which should be automated too I expect that Latch Mode works as described in the manual (from Logic Pro Help)

User uploaded file

Which, by the way worked superb until Logic 9.

It is not helpful at all when that "feature" works only once in a track with no Automation on it....

Because that means all the work previously done on that track has to be deleted to make sure it will work from that point on.

Sorry but that does not make any sense at all and its everything but Logical.

Another Example:

I have a long "Atmo" like a wind through leaves in a forest with birds etc. and I need it for about 4 or 5 Minutes.

The level does not change within that time only at the beginning with a slight fade-in.

In former times I automated that fade until the level was fine which was after 10 seconds (latest) and from there on the level must not change.

I just don´t have the TIME to let logic run for 5 minutes when there is nothing more to do on that track.

When I stop Logic after writing the level in Latch mode now it JUMPS Back to the level from where I started and I have to erase that last Automation point. And this is whats really annoying to me.

but anyway thanks for your tries to help me.

May I ask what version you are using...?

As a test could you convert the track automation to region and try it....

Lastly (as a test again) if there is no other automation on that track could you try using "write" and see if you get the same or different results.

Feel free to send the project to logicprose@icloud.com and I can see if I can reproduce it here on my end.

Dear Indyuser,

sorry , I forgot to post my setup:

macpro late 2013, 8-core, 32 GB RAM,

OSX.11.5 (El Capitan)

LogicPro 10.3.2

Additional Hardware that might be involved:

Unitor 8 MKII (USB-Version)

MackieCtrl Universal

Apollo Quad + Ferrofish A16 MKII

Doepfer LMK4+ (that can´t be the reason because before that I used an old EMU E-synth and the same Bug appeared then too).

Additional Software that might be involved:

Vienna ensemble pro 5 + VSL Instrument Pro

all from Spectrasonics

NI Komplete 9

Iced Audio: Audiofinder

Is it possible to delete any (midi- ?) prefs ? because sometimes I have an issue with Midi-Input :

All the Gear (Doepfer, MackieCtrl etc...) is recognised but ihn Logic there is no incoming midi.

The only way to get everything working again is to completely shut down the Mac and separate the whole Studio

from Electric Power for about 1 Minute and then start again. If it works...it works reliably.

If not I have to try that until it works which can take a few times sometimes.

I try to send you a Project file.

Many thanks

I finally found a solution in another Logic Pro Help Forum:

saishravanam wrote:
While Automating, DO NOT PRESS STOP once you are done, PRESS THE PLAY.

timothylucas wrote:

The problem I see with it, though, is when I hit play, it throws the playhead back to wherever I began playing from. Is this your experience with it as well? Or is there a setting that allows me to hit play and the playhead does NOT jump back?

Set up a key command for Play from Previous Bar. Then it will only jump back a bar.

Though this workaround is definitely not a final solution it solves the problem in a kind.........
