Upgrade MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.4 to Sierra or where do I find El Capitan?

Could I upgrade OS X 10.7.4 (not 10.7.5 as advised) directly to Sierra? If not, where do I find El Capitan? I have plenty of GB. Have backup on another system, Time Machine, and data on Dropbox. I have not used it in over a year- recently replaced GPU and works great so I want to upgrade before I install new apps, etc.

Thanx~

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Hi,

If you have never upgraded the machine to El Capitan before, you cannot now. The upgrade for you is Sierra: How to get macOS Sierra - Apple Support

Make sure you backup right before the upgrade, so everything is current in case of a problem, and for when you restore.

Also check to see which apps will need to be upgrade, which won't work and which will need to be replaced with something else: http://roaringapps.com/apps
