Mac File Vault and PGP Disk Images

I am currently using PGP 9 for Mac for email and have created some PGP disk images in my mac home folder account.

I have never used File Vault but am considering it because I have to travel overseas to the middle east.

If I turn on File Vault will this affect my PGP disks - can I still use them? Can I totally reverse the File Vault process if I do not like the performance or have any problems? I understand (correctly?) that File Vault will only protect the home folder; will created an AES protected version of itself and erase my current home folder....

Any recommendations on this are much appreciated
Thanks
J
