Self-assigned IP Address Wifi HELP ME

Hi.

Over the last couple of days I've been trying to fix this problem with my mac. It's a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 edition) with Sierra version 10.12. I had no problems with Wifi (also all other laptops and computers, phones etc on the wifi have no problems - some are windows, some are mac also) until now, and I can't recall changing anything in preferences before this happened. It happened in the middle of watching a YouTube video. Standard stuff.

Now the internet can't connect and has a Self-Assigned IP address. I've tried a few things, but please try suggest ideas for me to try? It's really frustrating and I'm on the brink of insanity.

Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Hi C12345E:

You don't say what you have tried to fix problem.

Try clicking on the WiFi symbol in the upper right corner of screen.

User uploaded file

Does it show you are connected to network?

You can also hold Option Key while pressing WiFi symbol and it will show additional information. i.e. Your IP Address, whether you are connected to internet.

You could also try looking at you cable modem or DSL modem and see if all the lights are on. Maybe the cable modem is the problem?

You could try unplugging your router for about 10-20 seconds and try plugging it back in and see if anything changes.

Every Mac gets a self-assigned IP address on the way to getting a "real" IP address. In most cases, the self-assigned IP address is so fleeting, that users will swear it never happened, it's that fast.

When you are stuck with a self-assigned IP address, it means your Router will not give you a better IP address. This is usually caused by problems that are not subtle -- fundamental failures or gross mis-configuration.

If you can not seem to establish a connection at all, try

System preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > (assist me) > (diagnostics)
