Garageband 1 File Not Found Issues -- FAQ

If you're getting a "file not found" error when opening a GB1 song, there are several possible problems.

1. If you use Save or Save As the song file only has links to the original audio. Trash (or rename, or move) the AIFFs, and the audio is gone from the GB song.

If you want to embed the audio in the GB song instead of linking to it, you have to use the Save As Archive command.


2. Apple warns not to use Save As at all with GB1 -- it's buggy and they couldn't be bothered to fix it. Only use Save (if you want linked audio) or Save As Archive (for embedded audio):

3. GB1 (at least) has a HUGE BUG where songs get corrupt and when you open them they are looking for an AIFF called something like MyFile#6808EF.aiff, when the original was MyFile.aiff. See this other thread on this issue:
