How do I uninstall iTunes on my Mac Book Air

When there is an update to iTunes and I try to download it, it runs for several minutes and then comes back with a message that it can't find the file string it wants, but a search of my Mac finds 2 strings that seem to match what iTunes download is looking for. I can still tun Tunes and I can play the audiobooks but I can now longer add them to my iPod. I would like to uninstall iTunes and reinstall a complete new version but I haven't figured out how to do that.

Thanks,

Jim
