Remote control connection lost on and off and Siri not responsive

Apple TV 4th gen. Worked well until a few months go. Now Siri is unresponsive when we try to go forward in programs for example and just say 'I didn't get that'. We reset the Apple TV last week to factory settings and re-paired the remote but the connection which was already sporadic : message in the top right corner of the scree " remote connection lost / on" - is still sporadic and Siri isn't any better. Any help welcome- of course we are just over the one year All updates are current.
