Volume control for garageband

do you mean the Master volume slider? it's in the top right portion of the window:

if it's not visible, you may have to increase the size of the window, and/or increase the resolution of your display. if you shrink the window right-to-left it will get hidden:

the other choice you have is to show the Master Track:
