how do i remove popups from Chrome on iphone 7

I have been seeing numerous gray box popups when using my iphone 7 " etc on local news organization pages and the like) as I link thru to pages from Facebook posts or when I use Google Chrome. Is there a way to avoid these little nightmares? I don't want to click on them. As a work-around I have been shutting the apps and reinstalling, but that doesn't seem to work.

iPhone 7, iOS 10.2.1

For Chrome, you can tap on the 3 dots in the top right corner, then on Settings->Privacy->Clear Browsing Data.

And also make sure Settings->Content Settings->Block Popups is turned on.

Unfortunately I do not believe there are any similar options for the web browser in the Facebook App.

Beyond that, there's very little that can be done with those types of ads.

They are part of the website being visited, or the ads placed on that website. Uninstalling the apps will not do much either. Easier and faster to delete website data and be on your way.

On an iPhone you can safely ignore them though. If there's a close button, tap that.

Otherwise, its a sad reality of the internet, ads and annoying popups.

OK, need a better and clearer description of what you are experiencing on your phone.

What kind of "pop-ups" - full screen or banners?

When do they come up - what are you doing when they appear?

What do you mean "link through to pages from Facebook posts"? Do you mean when you click these links you are getting these pop-ups?

But your title asks to remove Google Chrome.

Can you specify what it is you want to do exactly?

Hello thank you for replying. This has happened as I hit links in Facebook and also through Google Chrome app. I get a small gray box that floats over the web content beneath it with some message like "you are the 100th visitor to our site! click here to enter..." they clearly are not relevant to the site. I used to get these things all the time in Windows on my PC/laptop. They are floating boxes, not banners. I have not taken screenshots because I just swipe to remove the app from my screen and delete it from my phone. In the past, the longer the box has been on the screen, the more freezed up my PC would become and then I would need a virus clean up tool. I also don't ever hit "close" or the "X" mark because that in the past has activated the box and put me in a new screen. There was another thread that said to clear the web browsing history under the Settings utility, but I can't find anything like that for my apps.

If you are talking about your iPhone, then go to Settings>Safari>and click on Clear History and Website Data.

Also, make sure that you have Block Pop-ups turned on, and that you have other settings under Safari set up so that you are as protected as possible.

I get pop-ups like that all of the time. I click on the "x". Be sure that you are exact on where you click. The ads are small, and the "x"s are smaller. Even if you are a tiny bit outside of it, it will open the site.

As far as Google Chrome goes - I can't help you there. I don't use anything except Safari on my iOS devices, and I don't use anything but Firefox on my Mac.

Best of luck,
