Kernel Panic - On wake up from sleep

I have kernel panics since this week, I never had that before. It happens every time my MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2011) is waking up from sleep. How can I solve this? (I can put "Computer sleep" to "never", that helps, but how can I solve the real problem?

Thank you for your help

I think part of the problem may be you are taxing your system when you only have 4GB RAM to go around, that's barely enough to boot into Sierra and open one or two applications. Unfortunately the Air's are not upgradable.

From your spotlight (magnifying glass) icon type "Activity Monitor" without the quotes, go to the Memory tab and look at your memory pressure.

1) I did, as you wrote above. I noticed, that Kernel Panic did not happen, when Bluetooth is off. There is only Kernel Panic, when Bluetooth is connected (Apple Mighty Mouse / Apple Wireless Keyboard).

I noticed, that Kernel Panic did not happen, when Bluetooth is off. There is only Kernel Panic, when Bluetooth is connected (Apple Mighty Mouse / Apple Wireless Keyboard).

It does appear to be Bluetooth related panic. The following is the backtrace from your panic report.

Kernel Extensions in backtrace:

com.apple.driver.IOBluetoothHIDDriver(5.0.5f1)[11F4B2E3-12FE-3BC9-A13A-C76604A9 94B4]@0xffffff7f82050000->0xffffff7f82069fff

dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOHIDFamily(2.0.0)[6035514B-B403-36FD-BD88-6ADCD3990C9F]@0xffff ff7f8181f000

dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOBluetoothFamily(5.0.0f18)[3AA9411B-1D19-318E-A777-19A4F0DC9D0 2]@0xffffff7f81f5d000

As an experiment, you might try moving all the Bluetooth related preferences to a safe place and letting the system create new ones (you will most likely need to re-pair your Bluetooth devices)

  • Finder -> Go -> Go to folder -> ~/Library/Preferences (the ~ is the tilda key generally found in the upper left corner of your keyboard

    Look for files with bluetooth in the file name

  • Finder -> Go -> Go to folder -> /Library/Preferences

    Look for files with bluetooth in the file name

After moving them out of those folders, reboot your system. Does the system still panic, after you have paired your devices again?

Battery: Health = Check Battery - Cycle count = 664

Have Apple evaluate that Mac's battery, and replace it if required: Contact Support.

There is nothing wrong with 4 GB memory. That is not causing the problem.

You may be right, and I agree get the battery checked by Apple, but excuse my ignorance; my understanding is the max cycle count for a 2011 macbook air is 1000 so I don't know if 664 is significant. What I did see is that there are almost 50 processes at startup that can not kick off with the OP's limited RAM. If you see evidence that the battery is the cause of the KP would you direct me to where I can find this in the report to determine this cause going forward. Thank you.
