How old do you have to be to buy an iPad mini 4 at an apple store?

My son would like to stop by an apple store to buy an iPad mini 4. Can he do that? Thank you.

I realize that I am very late getting back to the discussion, but my response was based on a previous experience that I had at an Apple Store a while back. It was about 7 years ago when I was trying to make this particular purchase, but I remember the store rep telling me that I needed to use a credit or debit card for my purchase.

I just wanted the OP to check to be sure based on my experience.

As long as he has a valid and legal means of payment, it will not be a problem. The only times age limits really come into it is if applying for credit or installment payments, or if entering into a contract (say buying an iPhone and signing up for service with a carrier). Otherwise, there is no law, in the USA at least, that sets an age limit to buy an unregulated retail product in a store.

I'm not so sure that Apple Stores will take cash. I know that sounds odd, but I would call and ask first. I think they prefer a credit, or debit card. If they took cash, the stores would have a haul on hand that would make a bank job seem like peanuts in comparison.

I say this in all seriousness. I would check first.

He is planning on buying the iPad, just an iPad with no contract, with cash that he had earned from his summer job. He will be able to do that?

I'm not aware of iPad sold with contract. You can either pay the full amount or finance it. I guess the latter may be considered a binding 'contract' to pay Apple the whole amount in x time.

I can confirm that because a friend of mine who used to work for a mom and pop cellular shop bought several iPhone devices with Apple gift cards. Apple did not accept cash.

They could be referring to a wifi only iPad with no cellular contract.

Presuming it hasn't already been bought, the parent could always go into the apple store with the child, let the child pick out what they want, they then give the parent the cash who then uses their credit/debit card to complete the transaction. WHIch should give the child the ability to buy their own device, while removing the potential issue of a gift card with a small amount remaining on it and also deals with apple stores that may. not take cash.
