mail App not showing notifications when lock screen opened on iPhone 6S

Mail App on my iPhone 6s is not showing notifications after lock screen is opened. if I open the mail App then the mails will appear only after opening the App. I have version 10.3.3. I have tried turning airplane mode on and then off and that did not help. I checked all my settings and nothing has changed, the App just quit working out of blue. it did not coincide with the recent update to 10.3.3. I am constantly having to go into the mail App to check for mail and this is rather inconvenient and I forget and missing mail. Any ideas of what is causing this or what I could try to fix would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much,

Niki

As you didn't specify what "all my settings" were, I'm going to ask you about the most important ones.

Did you check Settings>Notifications>Mail><Account Name>>Show on Lock Screen?

Did you check Settings>Mail>Accounts>Fetch New Data. It should be set to Push or Fetch. If the option "manually" is ticked under "Fetch", that would explain what you're seeing.

Who is your email service provider?

I'm not sure why you marked the thread as solved. Did my suggestions solve your problem?

It appears that your email providers are Gmail and iCloud. Do you also have an email account with Bell? If so, that's not clear from your post. Did you check Gmail to make sure it's not set to manual? Push is not an option for Gmail in the Apple Mail app.

Do you have cellular data enabled? Settings>Cellular.

You could try resetting your network settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You'll lose any saved WiFi passwords (on all devices that share the same Apple ID) but nothing else.

Hi IdrisSeabright,

I'm so sorry, I guess I haven't got the hang of this discussion board yet, will pay more attention.

no, your reply did not solve my issue.

No I do not have a email account with Bell. My only email accounts are with Gmail and Apple.

I checked my Gmail and it is NOT set to manual.

Yes my cellular data is turned on.

My wi-fi account is with Shaw,(my TV cable company), so I am not clear on if I Reset Network Settings on my iPhone, I would have to reset with the same password or my wi-fi would not work or am I misunderstanding how resetting Network settings works?

Thank you for your patience and help,

Niki

No worries. The forum software can be a bit, uh, flaky.

If you reset the network settings on your iPhone, you'll have to enter your WiFi passwords on the phone again in order to connect the phone to wifi networks. You will not have to reset the passwords to the network itself. I only give that warning because some people don't remember their passwords.

If that doesn't work, my last thought would be to delete the email accounts and add them back. As long as you have the passwords, that usually only takes a couple of minutes.

Sorry I don't have any additional brilliant ideas.

Best of luck.

P.S. I suspect the other poster was also having issues with figuring out the forums.

Hi IdrisSeabright, ok those are great ideas and will try them later in the day, thank you for all your suggestions. I did reset my cable wi-fi box this morning in hopes that that would work but that was a no go but perhaps your ideas will give me some luck. Thanks again for your patience and all your help, much appreciated !!

Have a great day,

Sincerely, Niki

Hi IdrisSeabright, well I'm not exactly sure what happened. I went into my Gmail App, clicked on ALL MAIL just to see what was there as apposed to what was in my apple MAIL APP, nothing really surprising there, but after doing that, everything seems to have gone back to normal now. When I get a gmail email, it is now showing up on my lock screen again and the notification shows up on the Gmail app when I open the lock screen like it used to again.

I did not uninstall and reinstall the Gmail App or the Networking Settings like I was going to try as it seems to have worked itself out for the time being. Kind of a bit of a mystery really ?? but will keep those 2 ideas in the back of my mind incase things go hinky again.

Thanks again for all your great ideas, until next time, take care,

Niki
