Apple watch 2 won't connect to WiFi

My  watch won't connect to WiFi. I did have it connected but now it's not. I have tried everything. I was told to go to WiFi settings on iPhone and forget that network then re enter my password which I did and this worked but now I've tried doing this again but still won't connect. Really frustrating so any advice truly appreciated

Thanks for this very helpful post

I have found an app called Lookout - from the App Store - which warns when you Apple Watch and iPhone are too far apart - can disable the wifi reception on the Apple Watch -

I followed your instructions re forgetting the wireless networks and then reconnecting but it did not work however as soon as I deleted this app and followed these instructions - wifi was immediately received !

Hi

The full range of features is available when Apple Watch and iPhone are connected via Bluetooth and your iPhone has access to both cellular service and the Internet (via either cellular data or Wi-Fi).

You don't necessarily need to have your iPhone on or immediately around you (within arm's reach, for example) for the devices to establish and maintain their Bluetooth connection. Normal Bluetooth range is around 33 feet / 10 meters (this will vary in practice due to wireless interference).

Whenever your Apple Watch can't connect to the iPhone via Bluetooth, it will attempt, as a fallback, to connect to a known, compatible Wi-Fi network. When instead connected to Wi-Fi, the watch also still offers a number of features. If your Apple Watch is unable to connect either via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, it again still offers some - although fewer - features. Features that remain available in each case are detailed here:

For the best performance from your iPhone and Apple Watch, including the most power-efficient communication between them, Apple recommends keeping both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi permanently enabled on your iPhone.

If your Apple Watch does not connect to your Wi-Fi network in the absence of a Bluetooth connection with your iPhone, then follow these steps:

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Check that your Wi-Fi network is compatible:

Make a note of your Wi-Fi network name, the type of encryption that it uses and your Wi-Fi password.

With your iPhone connected to the Wi-Fi network and with your Apple Watch close by and connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth:

  • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Wi-Fi.
  • Tap on the "i" icon at the right hand side of your current Wi-Fi connection's entry.
  • On the next screen, tap on Forget This Network - allow a few moments.
  • Then, with a short pause in between, disable and re-enable Wi-Fi using the toggle at the top of the Wi-Fi screen.

Reconnect your iPhone to your Wi-Fi network:

  • Ensure that you connect only to a 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a hidden network (ie the network name / SSID is not broadcast), choose to add the network via "Other", then enter the network name, encryption type and password.

After your iPhone has reconnected, allow a short time for the information to be shared to your Apple Watch.

Re-test your watch's ability to connect to the network by turning off Bluetooth on your iPhone and opening Control Centre on your watch (swipe up on the display when viewing the time on your watch).

You're welcome!

As the issue persists, it may be due to wireless interference:

It may also help to check your Wi-Fi network settings. Apple's recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points are detailed here:

Otherwise, given the steps that you have already tried (including those referenced in your duplicate thread), I suggest that you contact Apple Support again (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider with a view to having your Apple Watch checked under warranty:

Stupid thing is I did previously have the watch connected with no problems at all so I can't understand why it is not connecting now.

Hi Jonathon thank you and sorry for starting a new post but i couldn't work out how to reply as im not very good at this. I have tried what you said and it did connect for a few minutes but as soon as i went out in the kitchen it disconnected again. I will have another go tomorrow but as i know that it will successfully connect to wifi its just strange why it keeps disconnecting now. My watch is only a month old as i upgraded to series 2 and i didn't have this problem with my first apple watch. I am determined to get it to stay connected i just get frustrated when im unsuccessful in doing it. You have been very helpful but maybe the watch needs looking at by apple. Enjoy your weekend.

I have just returned from Spain and i have done the latest update think its 11 on my iPhone but now i ant get wifi on my watch. i noticed on my sky network there are 2 buttons which are switched on Auto join and Auto login. last time i toggled one of them off as i know that both should not be on but i cant remember which one i need to keep turned on. I just cant seem to get the watch to connect to Wi-Fi now I've done the update. Do you have any suggestions for me please. Thanks Mandie
