amber alerts: where are they stored?

Where does the amber alert go after unlocking the iPhone? An amber alert woke me but I wasn't exactly awake when I unlocked my phone before reading the alert. Now I can't review the alert. It's not under text messaging as I assumed? It seems silly not to store the alerts for later reference so where do they go or how can they be reviewed later?

I don’t believe they persist on any device indefinitely. While I cannot find documentation of it, I thought that once the alert is cleared by law enforcement, it is pulled from the WEA system and receiving devices (my understanding was so there’d not be any confusion about active and cleared alerts amongst the public).

That would make sense to me. The only Amber alerts law enforcement will be concerned about are the active ones. They don’t want the cleared or expired alerts creating mistaken calls or tying up resources.

Swipe down on the home screen to bring up the notifications window. Amber alerts are notifications, not texts.

Amber alerts use the federal WEA system (Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) | Federal Communications Commission) and participating carriers for the most part propagate them to their customers as notificationa to avoid delays with SMS which in densely populated areas can experience delays.
