I am loking to set up dual monitor and I am not sure what is compatible with my iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) - model MC309LL/A

There are hundreds available and no "best". Your iMac has the ability to connect to all. What you need to see is what output resolutions the iMac supports on external displays (check your models System Specifications) and then locate a external display that closely matches. Then once you select the appropriate external display you will need the correct cables to connect them.
