Can't Edit Contact on Iphone

I'm having an odd problem. A friend of mine sent me a message. It no longer shows his name, just a phone number under imesage. I checked contacts and his contact is gone. If I try to edit the contact that's associated with the number under imessage, no name shows and I have no way to change the name. I've included a screen shot of the edit screen. Any ideas on how to fix this? I've updated to the most recent ios and have hard rebooted already.

Hello Yevquest,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are experiencing issues with a certain contact in the Messages app showing the phone number and not that contacts name. First, go to Settings > Phone and turn Dial Assist off. Then force close the Messages app and test your issue again.

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If your issue still isn't resolved, please go to Settings > Contacts > Accounts and temporarily turn off syncing of contacts with any account listed here. Then restart your iPhone as iOS clears cached data and does other system optimizations when you turn your device off and on. Once your iPhone is back on, go back to Settings > Contacts > Accounts and turn contact syncing back on and test your issue again.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Go to contact click edit then bottom of page delete contact then add back again.
