The airplay code is displayed on the TV but not accepted on my computer [iMac]

I am running MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 on an 21" iMac [2015] and Apple TV 4th Generation. AirPlay is active on a 50" Panasonic flat screen. The WiFi network is FIOS Gigabit. All devices [AppleTV, iMam, MacBookPro and 2 Phones are all on the same network.

From the iMac, I clicked the TV icon, click on'Living Room', the location of the TV and I am presented with a dialog box requesting the 'AirPlay Device Password'. I enter the 4-digit password that appears on the TV screen and it is rejected., "This code is incorrect."

What am I missing?

GarageBand (Mac) '11, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

I set the First Time Passcode when I installed the AppleTV. It is shown as "On" in the settings.

I am able to use AirPlay from my iPhone - so perhaps the problem is with the iMac. But from what I read I should be able to stream from the iMac to the AppleTV.

Regards
