Keyboard MalfuncTion

About two months ago, I took my MBP in for repairs. The power button suddenly stopped working overnight. It was an expensive fix, but everything worked out fine.

Yesterday however, my keyboard stopped malfunctioning out of the blue.

As you can see, T is always capitalized. Other things of note are:

  • T is always capitalized (Note, I copy pasted the lower case "t" in order to facilitate reading.)
  • EnTer key produces "-" and skips a line
  • "-" produces "-" and skips a line
  • Command + T To open a new Tab, insTead reopens The lasT closed Tab.

Command key works fine with oTher keys as far as I know.

I'm highly limited by my student budget (currently on a scholarship in Japan). Are there any fixes I could attempt?

I've changed keyboard language, tried running diagnostics and the PRAM test to no avail.

Hi,

The power button is part of the top case, which also houses the keyboard. I think it's highly likely that the repair and the current issue are related, meaning it's hardware related, meaning it will need to be repaired again. Even if you're not still under the original one year warranty, repairs carry a 90 day warranty, so I would bring the Mac to an Apple Store “genius” bar for a free diagnosis and, hopefully, a free repair: https://support.apple.com/contact
