Photos won't transfer from iPhone to Mac

I've never had any issues transferring my photos from my iPhone onto my Mac. However, recently when I connect my iPhone the photos won't transfer.

Once connected,

- iPhoto application opens (as usual)

- New Photos tab appears (as usual)

- my device is shown as connected (as usual)

- "Loading..." appears in the upper right corner (as usual)

But that's where is ends. Photos never load. It just continuously shows "Loading..." and I can't get the photos off my iPhone.

Any thoughts on what's going on?

Mac - OS X, version 10.9.5

IOS - iPhone 6, version 10.3.3

Cloud settings turned off on both devices - I don't keep anything on the cloud. I just transfer from iPhone to the Mac.

Nothing has changed. I've been able to transfer photos to the Mac without any issues until recently. Now it just sits there with a "Loading..." message.

There is a mismatch between the OS on your Mac (from 2013) and the one on your Phone (last month).

Make sure iTunes is up-to-date.

Can you see the material with Image Capture (in the Applications Folder)?

What version of the Mac OS and of IOS are you using? What are your iCloud settings on the Mac and each IOS device? What has changed since it worked?

And what version of iPhoto?

Are you connecting using USB? Reboot and Try a different USB cable
