How do I clean a usb from virus with my imac/macbook air?

I may have gotten some virus into my imac (it's used in my shop for transferring data from various customer)

It's not affecting the imac performance, yet sometimes if I let my usb/memory card/external harddisc plugged in for too long, it suddenly read as full even when I delete the content.

For usb and memory card, I have been "reformatting" them when this happens (using erase in disc utility).

But last week this happened to my external harddisc, which hold quite a lot of backup files, and I don't have any space too temporarily keep the files while I "cleaned" it.

Is there any way to clean the virus from my external harddisc (with imac/macbook, I don't have a windows computer)

Thanks

I see three problems and none of them is a virus.

1. Click "Clean Up" in the portions of the report where it says that.

2. You have pieces of MacKeeper still hanging around. You may be able to eradicate it totally by following the directions for removal http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malware/

3. You have Time Machine configured but it hasn't run in over two years, you need to fix that ASAP because you're playing with fire.

I would also suggest that you boot into Safe mode to allow the computer to do some self cleanup, when it's done just restart normally Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

Mike's assessment is 100% correct. Please follow the instructions. The symptoms you describe as a virus were all created by the users of the computer. Mac OS was designed to be extremely secure and only requires being kept up-to-date to remain so. The introduction of cleaning, AV and other third party apps tends to create more problems than they solve.

Also backing up any computer is required. It isn't something that should be done, its something that must be done. All machine's have failures from time to time so why risk your valuable data such as your irreplaceable photos, music, financial information etc by not backing it up. Use Time Machine as it was intended to be used in Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

Thanks. I'll try that after I return to my office.

For no.3, I was going to do that when I discover that my external harddisc was more than half full. So I delete some of my oldest backup and useless files, yet the empty space in my harddisc was not increasing for even 1 bite (as I described before, it happens with all my usb from time to time).
