Just got 13" base model and bought IO gear USB-C expansion. Got HDMI going to a new 4K monitor. Now the keyboard is hot. I am not running anything just idle with some apps open. I am wondering if the IOGear expansion is inhibiting air flow or the intel graphics making it hot using an external monitor???

I determined that the laptop only gets hot when I have my 4K external monitor hooked with via TB3 HDMI adapter. Doing the same tasks without it, the laptop is cool. Is this because I have the base integrated graphics Intel 640??? This stinks.
May just be the adapter that is causing the problem or the IO Gear expansion box. What happens if you use your adapter without the IO Gear expansion box? Are you sure the computer is truly HOT and not just warm to the touch? What are the actual temps?
I actually bought another adapter as I though maybe the flush mounted IOGEAR was causing airflow issues but it did not make a difference. I found as soon as I plugged in the HDMI the CPU started getting hotter:
Just blank extended / HDMI desktop with Audacity 30% CPU -> 67 C / 1200 RPM
Audacity moved to extended desktop -> 75 / 4200
Audacity No HDMI -> 53 / 0
No CPU utilization with HDMI 43/0!
So if no CPU then the blank extended desktop did not get things hot. It only seems like when the CPU is somewhat loaded and HDMI is there an issue but that is the normal use.
I think driving the second display puts a heavy load on the integral GPU causing it to run hotter, but 75ºC isn't excessive although it is hot. Most games played on the screen will cause the same result.
