Mail, Moving messages stuck

I recently upgrade to the new iMac... my 2012 mac running Sierra got stuck "moving messages" so if i deleted any mail - when i would go to my other devices or quit out of mail - they would all still be there. very annoying - especially after deleting 800 emails after a vacation. I have migrated my account to my new iMac and have discovered that it is doing the same thing. I've checked the other threads and so far nothing has seemed to help. this is very frustrating. any other suggestions? thanks in advance.

I think the problem will be with the All Mail Folder in Gmail. It appears that you are using it from your image above. It will show in the Archive mailbox in Mail. Check your other devices and see if the Archive Mailbox is set to the Gmail All Mail also.

The All Mail will show messages in any folder it appears in. I hide this folder at the gmail site so it doesn't show in Mail. You might also check to see how deleting messages are set at the website. Gmail's default is to archive. You might want to change that also.

It is only the Gmail. On my MacBook - using the same settings - so far as i can tell... both get emails exactly the same time. But if I delete it in my iMac - it disappears (but only on the iMac) and then i see it added to the moving messages tally... if i delete the email on my MacBook - it disappears immediately from my MacBook and iMac mail accounts. and there is no "moving messages" message on the MacBook. The only difference between the two computers is the MacBook uses wifi wherever I go - my iMac is using ethernet and plugged into my home router. And both computers are using the same behaviors - this is on my iMac... User uploaded file (thanks for hanging in here with me Glenn - this is super frustrating to try to problem solve by myself...)

First, check your other devices and see if the mailboxes are set to the server mailboxes and not local. Especially the trash.

I don't think it's a gmail issue nor a connection problem either. It's a wrong setting or corrupt file that was migrated from your old computer.

Try this process below. You will need to recreate customized settings, but it should reset your Mail user preferences:

Remove Container file Mail:

Quit Mail.

In the Finder, select Go, then Go to Folder. Copy and paste the path below and hit GO:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail

Move the whole com.apple.mail folder to the Trash, and open Mail and test. If all goes well, you can empty the trash. You may need to re create your user settings.

If the above doesn’t work, repeat the process with this folder:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent

If there is a problem or you wish to restore the old file, first, Quit Mail.

Then open the Trash. Right click on the folder and choose Put Back from the menu.

If nothing works, it might just be best to delete the gmail account from internet accounts in system preferences. Restart the computer, then add the gmail account back in.

Thanks Glenn. I have duplicated your set up. My MacBook decided to download 18K of emails and my iMac downloaded 16K... even still, it is still trying to download some other messages and the problem persists. However, I feel more certain that it isn't a gmail issue. When I got the iMac out of the box and manually entered in my mail settings, it worked just fine. It was only after doing the migration that I ran into this problem which like I mentioned, was an issue on my old mac. So... I guess i could delete all of my mail settings and just rebuild it manually?
