FCPX crash on file import

Question

I installed some free audio plugins, after which FCPX started to crash when trying to import material. Doesn&#x27;t matter; drag and drop, Import button or from the pull-down. My system also crashes com.apple.Audio.Infohelper, which I can&#x27;t seem to locate (or trash).I first removed the plugins, but today I went back to a 4th of august TimeMachine copy. The problem turns out to be still there, leaving me clueless.Thanks for any help!

Dash cam taken by Uniden cam945.  Full HD_1080pI&#x27;m using High Sierra. I installed FCPX 10.4 on Sierra and Upgraded to High Sierra before I ever used 10.4. When I used 10.3 on Sierra it worked okay, so I don&#x27;t know if 10.4 would have worked on Sierra, or if 10.3 would have worked on High Sierra.The files cause both FCP and iMovie to crash.QuickTime Inspector:

Thanks for the effort, Luis. Cleaned up with Etrecheck and other tools. Took off all HD&#x27;s, FireWire-unit, USB clavier. No more red in Etrecheck, still the same error. Delete FCP X preferences: hold down command and option while starting and click Delete Preferences.You will have to reopen your library and set the preferences to your liking but none of your content will be affected.Corrupted preferences can cause all sorts of crashes and odd behavior so this is the first thing one usually does when FCP X misbehaves.

A few thoughts:-pay attention to the red mentions in the report; run Etrecheck again and, where appropriate, click the Clean Up buttons; you may also remove the Startup Items, even though they are not doing anything - just delete the contents of /Library/StartUpItems.-uninstall Pace-make sure the drivers for Wacom are updated to the most recent version (older versions have been known to be incompatible and cause several problems in Sierra)-you have several external hard drives connected. Experiment to see if the problem may be somehow related to one of the drives. For example, if you eject all drives, make a small library in your internal drive, Import - does it crash? If not, then you may add one drive at a time and see how it goes.

I see that you have some old installs, and that you recently installed something called "Uninstall Pro - OS Cleaner".I cringe every time I see an application with "cleaner" in its name.At this point I would make sure to have a solid backup, and then erase and install Sierra.Or, since you have separate HD and SSD (not configured as a "Fusion Drive"), and it appears that your HD is the one with the OS, you could just install Sierra on the SSD and compare how things go. As a side note, I expect your overall performance would improve significantly if you were to boot from the SSD.(In particular boot time and application launch time would greatly improve, giving you a much more responsive machine)

I tried one of those cleaners in the light of this problem, quite unsatisfactory, yes. Sierra runs on my SSD, by the way. Had the SSD installed in July and installed Sierra then. The weeks after everything worked fine and very fast. I will try and reinstall Sierra for now. Thanks again!

Issue not solved, but some interesting detail revealed itself. No matter what; as soon as I touch the ‘Import’ button, FCPX crashes. Last week, I accidentally plugged in my card reader with GoPro videos on it, with FCPX running. Then, to my surprise, the import menu came on. Fully surprised I selected all and pressed ‘Import selected’. It imported my files without problem. Works with photo’s and well as audiofiles too. Pressing ‘Import’ or using the media selector makes FCPX crash nevertheless. I now suspect OS Sierra, but I am clueless. This must be a FCPX bug?! At least I have a workaround now.

I installed Final Cut Pro 10.4 on my MacBook Pro. It never had a previous version Final Cut Pro. Then I update my computer to High Sierra. A few days later, I opened FCP for the first time. No plugins have have been installed. I clicked the Import Files button, navigated from DeskTop to My User folder, then to the Movies folder. Then I clicked a folder within the Movies folder. At that point FCP crashed. Now it crashes when I click import, or drag a file over FCP. Just spent $300.00 for FCP, and it won&#x27;t run. Note: iMove behaves exactly the same. I had used iMovie before upgrading to High Sierra.

I moved the clip I wanted to import to another directory and was able to navigate to that directory. When I scrolled down to find the clip, FCP crashed. I was able to repeat this several times. When FCP got to the .MOV file that I got off my dash cam, it crashed.the movie is a 3:00 minute clip with a .MOV extension.
