N64 Bluetooth - using 4 controllers with an N64 emulator

I'm looking to purchase some N64 Bluetooth controllers and wanted to see if anyone has successfully used 4 controllers simultaneously - it'd be great to play 4x player games like Mario Cart or Goldeneye.

I'd also be interested to hear if anyone has succssfully used 4 USB N64 controllers, and if so, do you think a standard USB 2.0 hub would be adequate, or better to go with a 3.0 hub.

I've already got the OpenEmu simulator installed on my 2016 MacBook Pro 13" i7 and it seems to run fine. But I need to make a choice and get some controllers to start playing.
