Installing iTunes on my PC running the latest version of Windows 10

After the latest update to Windows 10, I encountered problems with iTunes. iTunes lost it's link to the iTunes folder that contains all my music and playlists. I tried a suggestion from the iTunes community to reestablish the connection but it had no effect. I decided to uninstall and reinstall iTunes to see if this would work (this has worked for other issues I've had since I had to switch to Windows 10). As it turned out, I later found out that iTunes did now completely uninstall - five programs remained on my computer. When I tried to reinstall iTunes, it failed, and I got error codes 2502 and 2503. (Haven't been able to find any info on these codes, but that's not an issue for now.)

I did find and article in Apple Support that told me about a possible fix to my problem, and I should be able to install iTunes. The fix was to use the Control Panel to uninstall the following programs:

Apple Software Update

Apple Mobile Device Support

Bonjour

Apple Application Support 32-bit

Apple Application Support 64-bit

I tried the procedure without success. I tried other methods to remove these programs. I tried "Remove", "Delete" and "Uninstall". Based on another response from the Microsoft Support Community, I also tried the "Repair" tool.

All methods ended with the same result. First I received the 2502 and 2503 error codes. Then I received a "Fatal Error During Installation" alert. I still can't install iTunes.

Any suggestions?

I spent about two hours on the phone with a tech support person (knowledgeable) going over my issues with iTunes.

Looks like almost everything was the result of a Windows 10 update. They added a new media player that you can't delete and it changes all the formats of your music files. It also makes itself the default app for music. In addition to being forced on me, it also deleted all the iTunes history folders prior to the update. All boils done to my having to rebuild my iTunes music and playlists. I just get to hope that when I sync my iPhone and iPad Pro everything goes OK. Tech person said that I should. In addition to all the good info and links you provided, they also gave me some additional info to aid in transferring all my files and document I want to keep from my old laptop to the new one I bought a couple of weeks ago. Do have a couple of issues remaining from the update to fix problems with Windows, but that's for another user community to go to for assistance. Thanks for your assistance.

I'm afraid those error codes don't mean anything in particular to me at the moment. When do they arise? During the install or after it has apparently completed successfully?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Right-click on the setup file and run the installer as administrator. It may also help to pre-install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. In some cases you may also need to disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus software while installing.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

The user tip at the preceding link, Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash, should tell you how to reconnect to your library folder if iTunes cannot remember the preference that was set previously.

The error codes appear near the end of the installation. There is never a successful install.

Nearly everthing I've tried came from the link you provided for troubleshooting. I've also tried to install an old version of iTunes, with the exact same results. I have been running the installer as administrator, also. I've also tried to restore my computer to a time before the last update, but that also failed. Restore encounters some type of "problem" and shuts down. I'll continue my search through the links you provided. If you think of anything else, please let me know.

Thanks.

I'm using Norton Antivirus and Malwarebytes. I have been able to install iTunes on a new computer I purchased about a week ago, but it has the same issue with iTunes having lost the link to the iTunes folder in my music library. Because of the issues I'm having with my regular laptop, I've been hesitant to uninstall iTunes on the new one. I've been rebuilding my music files and playlists, but I don't have a clue as to where this new "rebuild" is being stored as the iTunes properties still show the original link that didn't work. Since I've been doing the rebuild, nothing has changed in the original file location. I can play the rebuilt music file. I've tried several times to reinstall the iTunes folder from a backup I have on an external hard drive, but that hasn't had any affect on the link issue.
