Nonbreaking Space Invalid?

Hi,

I'm trying to read ePubs that I'm creating. However, iBooks won't recognize & n b s p ; (it says it's invalid and cuts the page off at the first place this appears). I'm working on MacBook Air, MacOS Sierra, version 10.12.6. My iBooks version is 1.10 (1289).

a. Lorem Ipusm

  • Lorem Ipsum
  • Ibooks also won't accept the codes for em spaces or en spaces, but those are more annoyances.
