AssistiveTouch to enter Recovery Mode

My iPod touch (4th generation) is disabled and telling me to connect to iTunes.

I've read that in order to restore the iPod, you must enter recovery mode... unfortunately the home button of the iPod does not work (it still clicks, but doesn't react to the click)

I have assistive touch enabled on the lock screen and it includes a home button.

How can I use AssistiveTouch to activate recovery mode?

I've already tried holding down the power and AssistiveTouch home button, and it just gives me the slide to power off screen or takes a screenshot.

iPod touch, iOS 6.1.6, null

Hello ipod1115,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

I understand that your iPod touch is disabled and it's telling you to connect to iTunes. However, you are having an issue entering recovery mode because the Home button doesn't work. It's important to make sure that you can use your iPod uninterrupted, so I'll be happy to provide some assistance.

You shouldn't have to use AssistiveTouch to enter recovery mode to resolve this issue. In addition to using recovery mode, you can also use iTunes to erase the device and remove your passcode (if you've ever synced this iPod with iTunes). You can also use the iCloud web portal if you're signed into iCloud and Find my iPhone is enabled. Please try the steps in support article: If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled , specifically:

Erase your device with iTunes to remove your passcode

If you've synced your device with iTunes, you can restore your device. This will erase the device and its passcode.

  1. Connect your device to the computer you synced with.
  2. Open iTunes. If asked for a passcode, try another computer you've synced with, or use recovery mode.
  3. Wait for iTunes to sync your device and make a backup. If it doesn't, learn what to do.
  4. Once the sync and backup have finished, click Restore [your device].User uploaded file
  5. When you reach the Set Up screen while restoring your iOS device, tap Restore from iTunes backup.
  6. Select your device in iTunes. Look at the date and size of each backup and pick the most relevant one.

Erase your device with iCloud to remove your passcode

If you set up Find My iPhone on your iOS device or Mac, you can use iCloud to erase and restore it. This will erase the device and its passcode.

  1. From another device, go to icloud.com/find.
  2. If prompted, sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Click All Devices at the top of your browser window.
  4. Select the device that you want to erase.
  5. Click Erase [device] to erase your device and its passcode.
  6. Now you can either restore from a backup or set up as new.

If your device isn't connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network, you can't erase it with Find My iPhone.

Let me know if this helps or if you have any questions.

Cheers.
