New Apple Watch Series 1-activation lock

I received my Apple Watch series 1 ordered from Kohl's. During the setup I received the activation lock screen and my Apple ID/password will not work. I've changed my password and still unable to get it to work. The "suggested" email given in the attached screenshot isn't my email "mxxxxx@gmail.com" Is it possible this was a returned item that was activated under another account?User uploaded file

Activation Lock prevents unauthorised use of a pre-owned Apple Watch if it is lost or stolen. It is not possible for you to bypass the feature yourself, whether by resetting your Apple Watch or via any other method.


Activation Lock should have been removed before the watch was resold.


As you purchased the Apple Watch from Kohl's:


If you purchased a new Apple Watch (rather than open box / pre-owned), then I suggest that you return it to Kohl's for exchange or refund.


If you purchased an open box device, then you may prefer to contact Apple Support or make a Genius Bar reservation for assistance with removing the lock, being sure to have your proof of purchase to hand:

Thank you for your response. I was thinking that sounds like the reason. Assuming someone purchased, activated and then returned without removing from their account (Apple ID). Sort of irritated thinking I'm purchasing "new" and receiving a used item. I'm going to call support as well and provide the serial # to verify before returning, just for additional proof. Thanks again!!
