NFL game pass international

Ok so for the past couple of years I've enjoyed access to my Game Pass subscription through the app on Apple TV...... a few weeks ago, just after my subscription auto renewed, the app stopped working and I got a message to say they were in the process of changing apps...... imagine my disappointment when I logged in last night, the app updated and I got an error message telling me the app is not available in my region!!??? What makes matters worse is it directs me to the App Store to download the non existant NFL Game Pass app I can still log in via the website but this defeats the purpose of upgrading a few years ago to new Apple TV in order to watch my NFL on big screen without the hassle of airplay. What's going on Apple/NFL?

I live in Mexico and I had the same issue.

Until week 1 from the NFL Season the NFL Game Pass app didn't work at all in my Apple TV or in my iPhone.

The only way to access my NFL Game Pass account was using the browser option (www.nfl.com/gamepass) and then streaming to Apple TV. I was frustrated and then searching for any solution (I already received the same email answer from NFL support) I found there is a NFL Game Pass International app, then installed on my iPhone and started to use it. It's working ok.
This week 2 I installed the The Game Pass International on my apple TV 4 and it's working perfect. So, it seems that all you need to do is download the app (The NFL Game Pass International version) and don't try to use the NFL app or the NFL Game Pass that is intended to use only in USA.

You will find the Game Pass International version app outside from the USA Apple Store (I downloaded from the mexican store). Now I'm trying to figure out how to install the app in my other Apple TV 3.

A friend of mine contacted the NFL and received the reply below. It looks to me like:

  • The Apple TV app will only be available for the ATV4.
  • If you're outside of the US you can only download the international app from a non-US store.
  • If you download the US app from the US store, you will not be able to use it outside the US.

Thank you for contacting NFL Digital Care.

Are/were you using the “red” NFL Game Pass app? I had the same problem as I live outside of the USA. At the start of the season, my app (on my Apple TV) stopped working and gave me the same msg. I opened a new iTunes account, using a different email, then went to the App Store and downloaded the “blue” NFL Game Pass Intl app and viola!! I now use the Apple ID associated with my account outside of the US.

Hi maybe this will work for you. If you have an apple TV4. Buy a 10euro itunes card and create a itunes account with it in the country you are in. Go to settings on your apple TV and add a new user, the one you just created. you can then download the NLF Gamepass international version. login to the app with your gamepass account. Then log out the user and back into your USA account. The app will now be available in your USA version of Apple TV. Alternately, you could ask a friend with a itunes account to login to your apple tv and do the same without spending 10euro, but I think you will need an account to update the app later. Best of luck and thanks for your service.

The problem is that you cannot download the international app from the US App Store. Although I live in Thailand I've been using the US store for iTunes since 2003 and the US App Store since Apple first opened it.

So, to download the app you have to switch stores. Before you switch stores you have to terminate all your app subscriptions and you have to terminate your iTunes Match and Apple Music subscriptions. This will end up being a huge hassle. Just doing it once is bad enough, but every time they update the app you'll after to switch stores again.

The worst hit of all is that the Apple TV app only works on the ATV4. I just bought two ATV3s this year. Does the NFL really expect me to buy an ATV4 just for their app? Sorry, but no.

They could solve this problem by:

  • Making the international app available in the US store, but georestricting it to use out of the US
  • Making an Apple TV app that runs on ATV2-4. They had one that ran on ATV3 perfectly well. Why ditch it?

The NFL will not be getting my money this year until they fix this foolishness.

Hey guys,

I found the problem you guys have encountered. Theres a new App for those that live in other countries outside the US. Its the NFL International Pass. You can download it on the Appstore. I just downloaded mine. I live in the Philippines. Now the NFL gamepass works perfectly with all the games, Red Zone, etc etc. The new App is colored Blue as oppose to the original colored Red one. Hope this helps! 🙂

This has been an issue since way long back as early June. I have contacted them at least 8 times and always get a generic answer back. No real time line and no effort to look after the subscriber. It's pretty poor form if you ask me. We pay $260 for a yearly subscription yet it's only really been fully accessible for 10 months. Plugging your laptop into the TV every time isn't convenient. I think next year a discount should be added.

Furthermore it is less than a week now until week 1 starts. I don't understand how an organisation like the NFL can be so behind on their streaming service. Up until this issue I had no issues whatsoever and praised how good it is compared to the MLB streaming app.

So it turns out this is an Apple imposed control so they can restrict users to the content they are eligible to receive. This is also why there is no longer an app for older Apple TV versions so the customer (and the NFL) are the unfortunate victims to the change. I am not sure why apple does not impose regional controls like all other streaming services (e.g. NETFLIX) by detecting the ip address of the streaming device. ***** for military users!

OK, so I contacted the app developer and this is the response I got below. For the record they answered within 24 hours, so they are onto it. Please see below

Thanks for the update. I feel your pain. Good luck getting your refund. I still cannot understand why the NFL.com app last season was available to me here in Europe and worked pretty well, and now the new app is not downloadable here for me. All of the conditions on my end, last year and this year, are identical. I do not want to switch the geographic location of my Apple ID/iTunes account. It's too complicated and would entail canceling other services. This *****!
