How do I turn off message effects?
I don't like the fact that when I click on the up arrow to send a text, the special effects menu sometimes appears. How can I prevent that from happening?

Yes, there is a way, but it would be "overkill" ...
Settings > Messages > iMessage = "Off"
This would cause all your messages to be sent as SMS cellular text messages, which never have the special effects options.
This is available if you wish. It's the only option. But hopefully you'll find consciously thinking about using a brief tap would end the issue.

Thanks for your reply. When I tap the up arrow to send a message, I don't think I hold it down, but just tap it. Sometimes the message just goes, and sometimes the special effects menu comes into view. I will try to be more aware of just tapping the up arrow. Is there a way to turn off this feature? Simply tap the up-arrow when ready to send the message. Do not hold it.
Thanks so much, sberman. Instead of shutting off iMessage completely, I will be more conscious of my "tap" when sending a message. You're right: the other solution would be overkill.
Glad all that helped.
Enjoy your Apple gear!
