I don't know how to format usb flash drive for backup

How do I format PNY 2.0 usb flash drive to back up my MacBook Air and how do I know if 8GB is enough?


processor speed: 1.6GHz Intel Core i5

memory: 8GB 1600MHz DDR3

storage: 91.31 GB avaiiable of 120.116 GB

display: 13.3 in (9440x900)

Intel HD graphics 6000 153.6

MacBook Air, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

1. Time Machine will reformat it if it needs to. If you’re using a different backup product or are backing up manually, choose Utilities from the Finder’s Go menu, open the Disk Utility, and reformat it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

2. Unless you’ll only be backing up your documents, it isn’t.
