Unable create volume

I have a Macbook Pro With 750GB HDD. In the process of cleaning up my Mac I had deleted the partition and the diskutility shows only one partition with 749 GB as OS X Base system with format as Mac OS Extended. The add volume ➕ button is greyed out. There is a message displayed 'This volume can not be split because the resulting volumes would be too small.'. Can anyone help me to in creating a volume so that the os can be installed.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Whatever you tried to do failed.

OS X Base System is part of an installer, not a normal macOS hard drive configuration.

Given what you have indicated there, I assume there is no data currently stored on the drive. I would boot into Internet Recovery and use Disk Utility to Partition the drive into one partition, GUID Partition Table, and format the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then reinstall macOS or restore from a Backup.
