Walter,
You can roll your own. Type any single digit. Next, in the Emoji's & Symbols (character) palette, search for the word circle. From the results of that search, there will be a larger open circle as the fourth item down in the left column. This is known as a Combining Enclosing Circle.
When you double-click the shaded circle above, immediately following a number entry, it will enclose the number (or any character) in a circle. Also, its neighbor is the combining enclosing circle backslash.

Hi Walter,
But wait! There is more!
Another way to roll your own.
Insert a circle Shape
While the Shape is selected, type a number. Drag the circle to enlarge, or reduce the font size to see all the digits.
Format Panel > Style > Fill > No Fill and Border > Line 1pt.
Change the font colour from white to black

Ian.

type a number inside a circle with keyboard
"Often, you will see Unicode characters represented as U+2460 ① . You can actually type this unicode string in the Character Viewer search window, and the corresponding character code will appear. In HTML, it would be represented as "①" without the quotes. You can see these values in the previously linked Enclosed Alphanumerics chart."
Thank you everybody but now I am stuck with the circled number 1 ①!
I need circled numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6
I thought you can get a circle in which you put in dif. numbers at will.
Thank you all for your input.
Although all of you macjack, yellow box taught me a lot of making circled numbers I feel the Viking way works for me with the least steps.
Thank you for the amazing effort of everybody.

Easier yet! 🙂
Just follow Yellowbox's advice. All circled numbers are there.
Amazing instructions and useful at times!
I wish there would be more than one "solved"!
Thank you!
