Can someone explain how Night Mode is supposed to work.

Ok, whatever you call the mode when the maps screen turns grey when it is night time, everyone else refers to it as "Night Mode", do a search of the forum or Google it.. The picture is the "Mode" I'm referring to.
Ok, when it turns dark outside and you route a trip or destination the maps will turn that color, please try it out for yourself.
Not "Night Shift" but " Night Mode" for Maps, when and why does the Maps App go into night mode?
Apple's Maps application has no feature called or related to "Night Mode."
You are showing Satellite View, which does appear more grey than Map View.
